Where The Engagement Session Process Begins
Where we begin in your engagement session preparation is getting to know the two of you. This not only serves us for the session itself, but also makes you even more comfortable in front of the camera on your big day.
When choosing an engagement photo location I begin by asking what your vibe is as a couple and if you have a place that holds significance to your love story. This can be a first date spot, engagement spot, or a favorite hobby location. We then build upon those answers to find great destinations!
Amy and Kyle are high school sweethearts turned college sweethearts who easily found themselves on the path to marriage. They became engaged on a beach in Savannah, Georgia a year prior to their session. The couple also share a love for animals and have two dogs together: Benji and Roxy.
The wedding day planning process can be stressful so I see the engagement session as a much-needed break! Even if you don’t need the photos for save-the-date cards you may still appreciate the time together. I’m here to provide the guidance you need in order to make this session all that it can be. The engagement session gets us acquainted while also giving the two of you an excuse for a date!
Finding Just the Right Downtown Columbus Ohio Photo Spots
For Amy and Kyle, an engagement adventure meant capturing meaningful moments exploring downtown Columbus, Ohio. We covered the area literally from top to bottom! After some conversations and my own location scouting, we originally planned to meet at a specific parking garage.
Upon arrival, we unfortunately found out that our selected garage rooftop was under construction. I immediately started reading over Google reviews to find a not-too-sketchy parking garage on the fly! We quickly found a nice and clean one nearby that was close to the Ohio State University main campus.
Following this, our second location was the grand front entrance to the Ohio Statehouse. This iconic location is clean, easily accessible, and offers a lot of space to play with. It really gives a beautiful blank canvas that can be used for any type of photo vibe. You will find the statehouse offers year-round options that fit any couple’s personality like these spring engagement photos.
PRO TIPS: Making the Most of Your Session in Downtown Columbus Ohio
Kyle and Amy found a perfectly coordinated without necessarily matching look that worked well against the sunset of downtown Columbus, Ohio. I always recommend wearing something you’ve previously worn that you know makes you feel great.
A bonus to this session was the couple opting for the inclusion of vintage Polaroids. I always get excited when couples include this in their wedding or engagement photography packages!
When Pictures Really Do Cover a Thousand Words
Sometimes, I just don’t know how to put into words how greatly I enjoy an experience with a particular couple. Amy and Kyle are such incredibly gentle and soft spoken people. Following their love around downtown Columbus, Ohio was the easiest thing to do.
While they both were a bit shy in front of the camera, their love for each other easily overwhelmed any hesitation. They warmed up so quickly and were very comfortable together as I encouraged them to interact with each other. Both of them have such radiant smiles!
The couple’s love caused them to just melt into one another and nearly forget that their photo was even being taken! For a photographer, that is a perfect engagement photography scenario. Amy and Kyle are truly as kind as they are stunning and I couldn’t have asked for anything better!
